‘Love and Hip Hop Miami’ Producer Catches Heat From Viewers After Racial Discussion

#LHHMIA Breaks The Internet After Heated Discussion Between Amara La Negra and Producer Young Hollywood

On Monday, January 1, VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Miami debuted their first episode of the new season.  This season features veterans of the industry including Trina, Trick Daddy, Pleasure P and Gun Play. The show also introduced viewers to upcoming stars in the hip-hop industry including Veronica Vega, Young Hollywood and Amara La Negra.

If you are familiar with the Love and Hip Hop franchise then you can expect drama, drink throwing and tons of arguing throughout the season. As expected, drama has sparked already in just the first episode.

Producer Elijah “Young Hollywood” Sarraga offended a lot of viewers when he made anti-black statements about his Afro-Latina castmate, Amara La Negra.  “The industry is looking for more cookie cutter, poster child” Hollywood said. He later stated she can’t be “elegant” with an Afro hairstyle and proceeded to call her a “Nutella Queen.” Hollywood ended the conversation by saying, “You’re so intense about this whole African thing.”

The episode sparked conversation about colorism within the Hispanic community and caused an explosion on twitter.

We don’t see many discussions like this in reality television surrounding black women or minorities that speak on topics such as race, skin tone and embracing their features. For the first time on Love & Hip Hop the topic was addressed and Twitter was quick to respond to Hollywood’s ugly comments.

After Twitter dragged Hollywood, I think it is safe to say he is officially cancelled. As for Amara La Negra, Billboard announced yesterday, Amara La Negra landed a multi-album record deal with Fast Life Entertainment Worldwide and BMG. I will continue to watch her story line on the show and kudos to Amara for scoring a record deal.
