Black History Month 2018 Most Memorable Moments

One of the best months, February, for Black History Month that is, is sadly coming to an end. Though we celebrate #BlackExcellence all throughout the year it’s always great when our sacred month comes around. As Black History Month 2018 comes to an end we’ve compiled a list of the most memorable, funniest and the best “proud to be black” moments of BHM 2018.

  1. Black Panther Debut

After the premiere of Black Panther we all took a magical trip to Wakanda and Black Panther is now Marvel’s third highest-grossing release bringing in over $700m. As we hit the movie theaters in our best dressed Wakandan outfits, Black Panther has left us with memes, gifs, quotes and sayings for the rest of the year.


2. Black Panther Soundtrack

Not only was the movie amazing but the soundtrack to Black Panther is INCREDIBLE, featuring artist like Kendrick Lamar, Jorja Smith, Travis Scott, SZA and more, we will always have the legendary Wakandan Soundtrack.

3. Amanda Seales gave us life when she performed a #BlackGirlMagic Poem on BETs’ 1st Social Awards.

4. One of the most honorable moments of #BHM2018, when The National Portrait Gallery Unveiled The Obamas’ Official Portraits.

5. Vermont Students get permission to fly a Black Lives Matter flag outside of their school

6. 2 Dope Queens, the hit comedy podcast premiered on HBO for a series of four hour long specials, with hosts Jessica Williams (The Incredible Jessica James) and Phoebe Robinson (Broad City)

7.  Da Brat announced that she is bringing ‘Set It Off’ to the stage, with Letoya Luckett, Demetria Mckinney and Kyla Pratt.

8. From social media to the #NYFW runways, Anok Yai became the first Black Model to open the Prada Runway Show in over 20 years.

9. That time Drake gave away $1 million in the God’s Plan Music Video 

10. That moment when Tiffany Haddish fan-girled Oprah on Ellen

11. Michelle Obama announced her memoir to be released November 2018

12. Janelle Monáe dropped the incredible visuals for ‘Make Me Feel’ and ‘Django Jane’

13. 2018 American Black Film Festival Awards show saluted and celebrated black excellence in motion pictures and television.
