17-year-old Micheal Brown, senior at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston, TX made national news after going viral in a video where the teen was seen reading an acceptance letter from Stanford University.
With 19 other acceptances from some of the best colleges in the country including 4 Ivy Leagues like Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University, and Vanderbilt University, Brown received full scholarships to all 20 of the schools.
While the noteworthy senior who earned a 4.68 GPA was praised by many, two news anchors of Fox 5 DC co-anchor Holly Morris and contributor Sarah Fraser criticized Brown for applying to 20 schools, calling his decision “obnoxious” and suggested he was showing off.
“It’s a little obnoxious because you can only go to one, you can only take one full ride, and you are taking a spot from someone else who worked really hard,” Morris said.
Fox News Channel 5 DC and the two news anchors were heavily criticized for diminishing the accomplishment of a young black man.
In response to backlash Sarah Fraser apologized for her comments while Morris has yet to apologize for her statements.
