Beyoncé Made History as Coachella’s First Black Woman Headliner and She Killed It!

Queen Bey shut Coachella DOWN. The singer/songwriter had to cancel her set last year for Coachella due to being pregnant with twins, Sir and Rumi. Queen decided to make up for it this year and all we can say is, she came to snatch our wigs!

Before hitting the stage Beyoncé warned us that this would be the performance of a lifetime but I’m afraid the warning wasn’t enough for the amount of slayage we received.

Queen Bey scalped America bald giving us a two hour long performance with the blackest performance ever to hit coachella’s stage! Celebrating black cultural influence in America all throughout her performance, Beyoncé was the first black woman to headline Coachella’s main stage. Filled with tons of amazing moments and special guest appearances, I think it is safe to say Coachella is now officially #BeyChella.  Check out these 10 best moments of the most iconic performance ever.

  1. Nerferti

Beyonce opened up her two-hour set dressed as royalty herself the Nubian Queen Nerferti paying homage to her (and her black culture) while wearing an image of her emblazoned on the back of her cape.

2. H’Bey’CU

What better way to showcase black culture in a performance than to have a live marching band with majorette dancers, J-setting and a baton twirler. Bey gave us an entire HBCU halftime performance and even hit the swag surf!

3. Black National Anthem

Is it really an HBCU halftime performance without performing the Black National Anthem?! While performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” Beyoncé also played excerpts of civil rights activist, Malcolm X “Who Taught You To Hate Yourself” speech which talked about how the black woman is the most unprotected person in America.

4. Nina Simone Tribute

During her performance, Beyoncé sampled Nina Simone’s 1954 version of “Lilac Wine” and mixed her song with a similar narrative “Drunk in Love.”

5. Beta Delta Kappa

Throughout her entire performance greek letters were seen all throughout her set. Beyoncé made us feel like we were pledeging her sorority, Beta Delta Kappa and even showcased her spring line of nine men the “Bug a boos”. Bey gave us the full HBCU experience wrapped into one performance and left fans wondering where they could sign up to enroll into her University.

6. “Everybody Mad” Dance Break

Now all real the Bey Hive members recognize this choreo from the Formation World Tour but Beyoncé added in a twist for Coachella, performing to “Everybody Mad” by O.T. Genasis and she absolutely killed!

7. Jay-Z performs Deja Vu

Beyoncé surprised fans with multiple musical guests and husband Jay-Z was one of them. Performing one of Beyonce’s classic song Deja Vu featuring Jay-Z, the couple gave fans a taste of what’s to come for the On the Run Two Tour.

8. Mi Gente & Les Twins

Beyoncé performed the summer anthem Mi Gente by J Balvin and Willy William and brought out her favorite two dancers the Les Twins, Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois.

With a room full of dancers who else better to dance with than your sister?! Bey brought out her sister Solange and they danced to the extended version of “Get Me Bodied” in this super cute sister combo.

Members of Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Beyoncé on stage for this amazing Coachella reunion performing a three-song medley including “Lose My Breath,” “Say My Name,” and “Soldier.”
